Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks tore the meniscus in his left knee Saturday night and will require surgery that will shelve him for the remainder of the National League Division Series against Philadelphia.
Weeks suffered the injury running out a groundball during the Brewers' 4-1 victory in Game 3 Saturday night.
Rookie infielder Alcides Escobar will replace Weeks on the roster.
Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash, who made the announcement during batting practice before Game 4 Sunday at Miller Park, said Escobar was chosen over veterans Joe Dillon and Russell Branyan because of his defensive flexibility and speed on the basepaths.
Under baseball rules, Weeks will be ineligble to participate in the National League Championshp Series, should the Brewers advance that far, but would be eligible to return, if healthy, should the Brewers advance to the World Series.

| WestSideWillie | I thought the Brewers had a chance on Sunday when this was announced. Oh well, ... |
| High_Life_Man | Maybe he could also have surgery to get his head on straight. |
