They may be in first place in the National League Central, but right now, the Brewers certainly aren't playing like a winning team. Case in point: lanky Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander threw a no-hitter against the Brewers Tuesday night, allowing four walks and 12 strikeouts in nine complete innings. He's the first Tiger to hurl a no-no since Jack Morris did it in 1984.

The Tigers beat the Brewers, 4-0, and the Crew was unable to muster any offense against the dominating righty, who improved his record to 7-5. At times, Verlander's fast ball clocked as high as 100 miles per hour. He's only thrown one complete game in his short career, against the Royals in 2006.

Maybe Brewers fans can blame it on the seagulls, who swarmed all over Comerica Field, creating a visible distraction.

Maybe not.

The slumping Brewers dropped to 34-30, but have haven't played well since the beginning of May, when they saw their record balloon to 14 games over .500.

It was another decent outing wasted by the normally reliable Jeff Suppan, who went 6.1 innings, giving up four runs, all earned.

The Brewers have been no-hit two other times in franchise history, most recently in 1994.

"That ninth inning was amazing," Verlander said. "It was the best thing that ever happened to me."
