The Brewers designated embattled relief pitcher Derrick Turnbow for assignment today. Infielder Joe Dillon was recalled from Class AAA Nashville and replaces Turnbow on the roster tonight in Houston.

The Brewers now have 10 days to trade, release or assign Turnbow outright to Nashville. In order to go to the minors, Turnbow must clear outright waivers. Any team that claims him would be on the hook for the remainder of his $3.2 million salary.

Because of his big-league service time, Turnbow could refuse a minor-league assignment and become a free agent, but he would then forfeit his salary.

Turnbow, a former all star, has been transformed from fan favorite to public enemy over the past season and a half. He entered a blowout Wednesday night and was unable to finish an inning. He allowed six runs, four hits and four walks before exiting what may have been his final appearance in a Milwaukee uniform.

In eight appearances this season, Turnbow is 0-1 with a 15.63 earned run average. He's allowed 12 hits, 13 walks and 11 runs in just 6 1/3 innings and opponents are batting .414 against him.
