Brewers right-hander Jeff Suppan, who has struggled in recent outings, was placed on the disabled list with joint irritation of the right elbow.
Suppan is 5-6 with a 4.71 earned run average this season. In his last three starts, including a rocky three-inning turn Sunday against Pittsburgh, he is 1-1 with a 9.64 ERA.
The move created a spot on the roster, and the starting rotation, for newly acquired right-hander CC Sabathia, who is expected to join the Brewers tonight and make his first start for the team on Tuesday night.
A Brewers official said that the team sold 3,000 tickets for Tuesday's game shortly after the trade was announced.
