Manny Parra will return from Class AAA Nashville and return to the Milwaukee Brewers' starting rotation tomorrow.

The young left-hander, demoted nearly a month ago, will make the start Thursday when the Brewers wrap up a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Parra was sent down to Nashville to work on his command after starting the season 3-7 with a 7.52 ERA in 13 starts. He struggled with his control and often had difficulty working deep into games, a point of frustration for manager Ken Macha.

"We're hoping to get a couple more innings out of him," Macha said.

In four starts with the Sounds, Parra posted a 1-2 record and a 2.92 ERA. In 24.2 innings of work, Parra allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 16 hits with 22 strikeouts and 15 walks. He got off to a good start, allowing just two runs over 13 innings of work in his first two starts, but became unraveled his third time out.

Parra was tagged for seven runs (six earned) in 4.2 innings. He allowed seven hits and five walks to go along with five strikeouts as the Sounds lost, 12-1 on June 27.

His best outing was his last. Parra threw seven shutout innings Friday, allowing just two hits and striking out seven in a 3-1 Nashville victory.

"He's pitched a couple good games (in Nashville)," Macha said. "He'll get an opportunity and we'd like to see him take charge and start for us every fifth day."

Parra take the place of Seth McClung who wasn't especially impressive or effective in two fill-in starts. He went just four innings in his first start, giving up three runs on six hits with a homer, two walks and three strikeouts. He needed 77 pitches to get through four innings but the Brewers would go on to win, 7-6, in extra innings.

His next outing did little to boost Macha's confidence in him as a starter. McClung lasted just 3.1 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits with three home runs. Two of those coming in the first inning.

To make room for Parra on the roster, the team designated left-hander Chris Narveson for assignment.

With Parra's return, the Brewers will have four-fifths of their regular rotation in place. The final member of the quintet, Dave Bush, will take the next step in his return from the disabled list Friday, when he makes a minor league rehab start with the Class A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Should that go well, Bush will make another rehab start on July 15 with Class AA Huntsville and would return to the Brewers for the July 20 game at Pittsburgh.

"We'll be evaluating him every step of the way," Macha said.

Bush was emerging as a consistent member of the rotation, compiling a 3-1 record and a 4.38 ERA heading into a June 4 start at Florida. In the first inning of that game, Bush was drilled by a line drive from Hanley Ramirez. He remained in the game and made a couple more starts before he was shelved what was revealed to be a torn triceps.

Bush threw on the side while the Brewers were at Wrigley Field last week and had another bullpen session on Tuesday with no serious issues either time.

"(I'm) looking forward to taking the next step," Bush said. "I've thrown in the bullpen a couple of times so now it's just a matter of seeing how I feel.

"It's a progression for me. Trying to step into it, not overdoing it at any point but just progressing."

He'll become the first Brewers to rehab with the Timber Rattlers, who play roughly two hours up the road from Miller Park in Appleton.
