Marquette University has a new Golden Eagle. According to an Alumni Association e-mail that I just received, "The Marquette Golden Eagle has been reworked to embody the strength, pride and power that have long symbolized the university's athletics programs."
Gone is the flapping wing eagle. It's been replaced with a new, fiercer blue and gold bird head complete with a snarl and focused, powerful eyes. This bird is ready to fight. Hmmm, reminds this alumnus of another powerful fighter, a Warrior.
The redesigned Eagle, while not nearly as cool as the old Warrior, will be used in merchandising and completes the athletic department's licensed logo package. Marquette Athletics' primary logo will remain the MU monogram, first introduced in 2005, which will continue to be featured on the uniforms for each of the MU's14 intercollegiate teams, including men's basketball.
Rickabaugh Graphics, designers of the monogram and based in Gohanna, Ohio, developed the new Golden Eagle graphic. Rickabaugh also does design work for The Big East Conference and many other colleges and universities including North Caroline State and the University of Wisconsin.

Why is everyone so stuck on Warriors? Changing it back won't make Dominic James any better. Just another example on how this city is stuck in the past. Listen to another '80s cover band. Worship the '82 Brewers every year forever. And complain about a schools logo when most people aren't alumni. Pathetic.

I continue to be completely dumbfounded by the clueless goof balls calling the shots at Marquette. Do they not care that the staggering majority of their fans HATE this nickname? They cannot help tearing the band aid off this wound every six months. MEMO TO MARQUETTE: put lipstick on this pig all you want, the name SUCKS and I wouldn't wipe my backside with this new logo!
