It's a sad day with the announcement that Brett Favre is going to retire. But before we all slit our wrists, let's try to remember something.
Those of us who have had the pleasure of watching him play are in a very select group. It's the people who had the chance to watch Michael Jordan play basketball or Willie Mays play baseball or Arnold Palmer play golf or John McEnroe play tennis. Athletes who combined unparalleled skill with charisma and charm and joy and colorful behavior and captured the imagination of their fans.
These are the guys about whom you can say "there was nobody like him."
There was nobody like Favre and there will be nobody like him again.
So through our tears, let's also have a smile on our face at how lucky we have been.
