The Bucks announced Monday that the option on Joe Alexander's contract would not be picked up for the 2010 season.

Alexander, selected eighth overall in last year's draft, will be out between eight and 12 weeks after aggravating a hamstring injury that had kept him sidelined during training camp.

He saw only limited action last season, averaging 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 59 games.

"It was a difficult decision not to pick up Joe Alexander's option," said Bucks general manager John Hammond. "Joe has missed valuable on-court development opportunities due to injury during his first two training camps, and this year he will miss almost the first three months of the season with his hamstring injury.

"We believe Joe can be a good NBA player, but his latest injury had hampered our ability to further assess his progress."

The team also announced that guard Michael Redd has a strained left patellar tendon which will sideline him for at least two weeks.

He suffered the injury during the Bucks' home opener Saturday night, leaving in the third quarter of Milwaukee's 96-85 victory over Detroit.

An MRI revealed the injury on Sunday and Redd will be re-evaluated by Dr. Michael Gordon.

Redd played in just 33 games last season before tearing his left ACL and missing the remainder of the season.

One blunder? Not sure about you, but basically getting nothing in return for RJ, Sessions and CV isnt exactly a classic GM move in my eyes! Again, I like the guy and think he will eventually turn things around, but just slashing payroll and giving up on his first top 10 draft pick after 2 years does not warrant a pat on the back.

Yes, the Alexander draft was Hammond's; his one blunder so far. But rather than dwell on it, he's taken quick action to remedy the situation.

Dont get me wrong, I like Hammond, but the difference between Yi and Alexander, Joe was his draft pick! We cant afford many of those mistakes!

I am really liking this John Hammond chap. He doesn't play around. He got rid of Yi quickly, and now he's getting rid of Alexander quickly -- both the right decision.

What a surprise about Redd, considering I was going back and forth with a poster the other day that kept trying to convince me that Redd was in the best shape of his life...guess not!!
