What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Dec. 8, 2007 at 6:56 p.m.

MADISON -- Brewers officials may have to consider adding another sausage to the already crowded racing field.

Andouille, anyone?

Or, is there a more appropriate French-Canadian sausage they should consider?

Brewers general manager Doug Melvin probably wrapped up the revamp of his bullpen Saturday when he agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran right-handed reliever Eric Gagne.

Baseball scribe Tom Haudricourt, who has been riding a hot streak lately, broke the story in his blog, reporting that the Brewers will pay Gagne close to $10 million.

A few things to remember:

  • The Brewers tried to acquire Gagne in a trade last year, but he ended up going to Boston, where he pitched poorly.
  • In the last few weeks, the Brewers have added Gagne, the Mets' Guillermo Mota, Pittsburgh's Salomon Torres and David Riske to their relief corps. Gagne and Mota were a formidable duo a few years ago in Los Angeles. Talk about an overhaul.
  • The Gagne deal won't become official until he comes to Milwaukee for a physical.
  • The Brewers will need to clear space on their 40-man roster for both Torres and Gagne. One way they could accomplish that is by not tendering contracts to arbitration-eligible players like Kevin Mench and Matt Wise.
  • Gagne's agent is Scott Boras. Milwaukee has shied away from Boras clients in the past, but Prince Fielder is represented by him.
