The Brewers announced that outfielder Carlos Lee was the team's player of the month for April and left-hander Chris Capuano was pitcher of the month.
The decisions couldn't have been very difficult.
Lee hit .297 with a club-record 10 home runs and 20 RBI for the month. His 10 home runs were tied for the third-highest total in the majors. Lee's best game of the month came April 18, when he went 4 for 5 with two homers against Houston.
Capuano went 4- 2 with a 2.36 ERA in the opening month. The lefty from Duke University by way of Springfield, Mass., went at least six innings in each of his outings and compiled 40 strikeouts to lead the National League and tie Boston's Curt Schilling for the major-league lead. On the final day of April, Capuano recorded the first complete-game shutout of his career when he limited the Cubs to five hits at Wrigley Field.
The Brewers also announced their minor-league player and pitcher of the month and both play for Brevard County in the Class A Florida State League.
Steve Sollmann was named player of the month after batting .367 with five doubles, one home run, 12 RBI, an on-base percentage of .468, and three stolen bases. He was selected in the 10th round of the 2004 draft and signed by scout Mike Farrell, a former Brewers minor-league pitcher.
Yovani Gallardo, who impressed the big-league coaching staff during spring training, earned April pitcher of the month honors by going 2-2 with a 1.69 ERA. The 20-year old righty allowed only 20 hits in 26 innings and struck out 38 batters. Gallardo was selected in the second round of the 2004 draft and signed by scout Jim Stevenson.
The Major League awards are determined in a vote by members of the media. The minor-league awards were selected by members of the team's baseball operations department.
