What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Dec. 11, 2007 at 4:33 p.m.

Recently, we took our kids for a drive down Candy Cane Lane in the West Allis neighborhood featuring houses that are uber-decorated for the holidays. Volunteers stand in the street collecting donations that people hand out of their car windows for the MACC Fund. This year they hope to raise $100,000, and I really hope they make it.

It's a great cause, and my kids liked it a lot -- especially seeing Santa stroll down the middle of 92nd Street -- but I did have a small issue with the experience.

Personally, I find the houses decked out in illuminated Bible quotes and the pro-war memorabilia a bit much. However, the house with the big sign reading "Abortion Kills Babies" was over the top. My older son now reads, and I really didn't feel like explaining abortion during an evening that was supposed to be fun and festive.

I know I don't have to drive down Candy Cane Lane, and these are private homes and the owners can deck them out however they want. (Although Candy Cane Lane is sponsored by Verizon.)

I love Christmas decorations, but I do wish, however, that Candy Cane Lane could just offer magic to the kids and moolah to the MACC Fund and leave it at that. Amen.
