Should cops ticket riders for motorcycle engines modified to be loud? |

Harley-Davidson is synonymous with Milwaukee and the "roar" that comes out of modified Harleys is a legendary facet of the Hog mystique.
As Harley's 105th birthday celebration revs up, the sound of convoys of loud bikes will rattle the windows and shake the doors of Milwaukee residents.
Considering that via the City's "Bass Busters" initiative the police department has declared war on loud music in cars and has been known to ticket drivers of cars with loud mufflers, does it seem fair that motorcycle riders don't face similar fines?
Do you think Milwaukee Police and County Sheriffs should ticket motorcycle riders for their loud motorcycles?
Yes, if cops give out tickets for noisy mufflers on cars (and they do) and for loud music emanating from vehicles, why not do the same for modified Harleys that disturb the peace? Fair is fair.
No, lighten up. After all, Harley-Davidson is just another way of saying Milwaukee. And this party will be one of the biggest in Milwaukee this year, so let's live and let live. Rev 'em ride, riders.

I 100% agree that revving the engine on your bike at 3am because you are drunk is totally unacceptable but loud pipes do save lives. If you are in a car with the windows up, the music blasting, talking on one cell phone and texting with the other, you will not hear a stock Harley next to you. I know people want to bash the loud pipes save lives slogan but they have saved my life more than once. It really wouldn't be necessary if people didn't talk on their cell, text, eat, do their make up, shave...etc while driving. I guarantee that everyone who posted negative before me has done one of those things in the last week while driving. If people would actually pay attention to the road and other drivers, it wouldn't be necessary.

What's the average age of people who have commented on this, 75? Jeez, really people? I can't believe what I'm reading honestly. Someone even wrote they 'leave town.' Good. Leave. Let the rest of us enjoy the beautiful machines and the history of the city ride past us in celebration.

YES. I leave town when they arrive. It is an insane the level of noise 24 hours a day for almost a full week. TICKET THEM. Tell them to drive around there own neigborhood like that on a worknight.

Yeah, if they're ticketing for loud mufflers on cars then they should ticket for loud mufflers on motorcycles (especially if they are ticketing not just the people who modify their exhaust system to make it louder, but the people too broke to fix their busted, loud exhaust system). Both are unnecessary modifications to the vehicle and their only purpose is to make noise.

Absolutely Not -- these riders should get the special treatment they deserve. Everyone knows that loud rap music from a car is measured in a different kind of decibels than biker noise -- kinda like the difference between white noise and black noise. There was plenty of other illegal activity within eyesight of the local authorities on Brady St. during the last Harley bash and the authorities rightly let it go. Could be the ringing of cash registers is louder than motorcycle mufflers.
