While they're setting downtown LaCrosse ablaze, Milwaukee's fest is much more subdued; like the real thing, you can bring the family! And it's in a unique location -- chances are you've driven past Old Heidelberg Park a million times without even knowing it's there, hidden in plain sight in the heart of Glendale. It runs the three weekends after Labor Day.

Where: Old Heidelberg Park, 700 W. Lexington Blvd., Glendale

Hours: Fridays from 5 p.m. to midnight; Saturdays from 4 p.m. to midnight; Sundays from 1 to 7 p.m.

Admission: Friday and Saturday $4; Sunday $3.

Highlights: Lots of fine oompah music from around the country, German dancing and flowing suds make this a mug lover's dream come true.
