Labor Fest: Sept. 3
Who better to celebrate Labor Day with than organized labor? And what better time to show support for working Milwaukee?
This family-oriented festival is the largest Labor Day event in southeastern Wisconsin. It's got a children's area, a classic car show, a parade from Zeidler Union Square to the festival grounds, entertainment by a host of acts on two stages and food galore.
A Union Industries Showoffers insight into what labor unions do and many of the businesses who employ union labor.
Where: Henry Maier Festival Park.
Hours: noon-5 p.m.
Admission: free.
Highlights: Enjoy the day (for free)! Be sure to catch the parade, which kicks off at Zeidler Union Square behind the Shops at Grand Avenue at 11 a.m. Typical Summerfest vendors accept food tickets purchased on the grounds, but everything else is free. There is music, a supervised children's area with clowns and magic shows, pro wrestling exhibitions, basketball contests, bingo, union industry displays and more.
Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have appeared at the event in the past, so stay tuned, maybe some big-name folks will be on hand this election year, too.
