I heard that the state now has a law that allows football teams heading toward Lambeau Field -- actually more the opposing teams than Packers themselves -- to run red lights. After all, what could be a bigger emergency than getting to the locker room four hours early?
This common sense law has me wondering about others who ought to be afforded similar status.

Why can't they just close the street for a 2 hour period, much like Milwaukee does for any of it's charity race events? Slap up signs on Friday saying street closed, and be done with it?

I guess I was wrong. According this article: http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20090922/GPG0101/909220552/1207/GPG01/Bill-speeds-up-team-trips-to-Lambeau The two sheriffs departments began escorting the caravans of NFL teams staying overnight in Appleton before games against the Green Bay Packers in the early 1980s. The escorting police vehicles used sirens, flashing lights and additional squad cars posted at intersections to provide teams with nonstop arrangements until 2007. After the liability questions were raised, the escorting officers avoided stops by controlling traffic signals by remote control. The change came after law enforcement instructors at Fox Valley Technical College, Grand Chute, noted the traffic disruptions violated state law, leaving the police agencies liable for damages from potential crashes. The bill lets police agencies decide when disrupting traffic for nonemergency escorts is justified. It includes fines ranging from $20 to $100 for motorists who fail to yield to the to the escorts.

The new law says that they can pass through red lights with a police escort. Seems funny that they had to put this into law. Can't police escorts basically control traffic whenever they want anyway?
