The Common Council released this statement to the media at 4:02 p.m. Tuesday:
"Statement of Common Council President Willie L. Hines, Jr.
May 29, 2007
"In light of the recent charges against Alderman Michael McGee, Jr., I am, effective immediately, relieving him of all committee assignment duties.
"There is no disputing the fact that our judicial system ensures that every individual is considered innocent until proven guilty. However, until this matter is resolved, I will act decisively to protect the institution of the Common Council."
