Ald. Michael D'Amato will not run for a fourth term to represent Milwaukee's Third District on the Common Council, a source close to the alderman said today. He is expected to release a statement at 3 p.m today.
Last month, Ald. D'Amato told OnMilwaukee.com during an interview, "I tell people I love this job. It's well suited for me and I'm well-suited for it."
D'Amato, who was first elected in 1996, is chairman of the Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee, and the Judiciary and Legislation Committee. He is vice chairman of the Finance and Personnel Committee.
Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee.com for more info as it becomes available.

Kind of hard to learn about Patrick's platform when he doesn't outline his issues on his website...

Patrick seems to be one of the only candidates that has consistently been working the district. He's turned in the maximum allowed amount of signatures last Friday while most of the others were still frantically hitting people up as they were Christmas shopping on Brady Street. Patrick's website is www.patricknewleadership.com and I think we'll soon see who the real candidates are in this crowded race. Supporters of Patrick like that he has actually achieved real results on a number of issues and has years of management, fundraising, and leadership experience.

I'd like to hear more from Sam and Patrick. I don't think the others can be taken too seriously. The frat guy knows only about UWM stuff, I don't think I ever heard of the Nic guy, and Sura would put a halt to any progress the district as made. I can't take anyone seriously who dismisses the success of Brady Street.

Twist is a frat boy! Sam McGovern-Rowen and Patrick Flaherty are also running, and they seem like the sanest of the bunch, with the most relevant experience. I think Sam, who is now the legislative assistant for the 3rd, would do the best job and probably has the least baggage of any of the candidates so far. All the others live in Riverwest, which is just a teeny slice of the district. Whoever asked about Sura, she is a 6th district resident but apparently says she will move? Maybe she should run for McGee's seat!

So far, out of the three than announced, I like that Andrew Twist guy the best.
