Should Wisconsin Commerce Secretary Richard "Dick" Leinenkugel run for governor? Why not?
I've heard this a few times and it seems a recent milwaukeeworld.com post has helped spur it. Regardless of this idea's origins, think about it: A beer guy running for governor in Wisconsin? Slam dunk.
Right now there are only two candidates: Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and former U.S. Representative Mark Neumann. It's widely speculated that Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett also will enter the race. In fact, he's registered a Web site.
With or without Barrett, Leinenkugel -- who took the commerce secretary job in September 2008 -- would make the race interesting and fun. He's personable, business savvy and isn't new to politics. He was a County Supervisor in Waukesha from 1997 to 2000.
Leinenkugel's is a big Wisconsin name that could carry Dick straight to the governor's office. Plus, he's a Marquette guy, a Marine and has a big family with wide reach. I don't know his politics and frankly don't care. I just think he'd add energy and marketing power to the race and the state of Wisconsin.
Here's his bio:
Leinenkugel, 50, graduated magna cum laude from Marquette University with a B.S. in business administration. He went on to serve as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Leinenkugel began his career with the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company in 1987 as a district sales manager/chain sales manager. He currently serves as vice president of sales and marketing for the company and is group manager, specialty and craft brands, for MillerCoors. He was appointed to the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors and represented Menomonee Falls from 1997 through 2000. Leinenkugel and his wife Jean, a registered nurse, have three children: Jeffrey, Katie and Lindsay.
Thoughts? Leinenkugel for Wisconsin?

It's hard to take any liberal seriously when they've been brainwashed by Messiah Obama, National Public Radio, MSNBC, and CNN.

FAC, calm down and take a deep breath. It's hard taking folks like you seriously when you spew B.S. left and right in some a.m. talk radio induced rage.

"Observer". It's amazing that you can't stand up for what you believe in, but instead hide behind your "Stop the War" and "Hope and Change" signs. You can't even show us an anonomous name and decide to be called "observer". The difference between us is that I know what I stand for and the priciples that guide me. Yes I am a Conservative Republican, and yes I support Scott Walker. Unlike yourself who doesn't know what you stand for except being anti Republican. You don't support Doyle, but you support and defend his policies? A little hypocritical is it not? Come out and label yourself the lefty you are. Yes you voted for Doyle and Obama, but can't defend anything they've done. How's all this hope & change working out for you? Not very well for me and millions of other AMERICANS.

Ah Scott Walker. OK, I see the big picture now. Here I thought we were discussing Dick Leinenkugel. FAC88, you don't mind if I call you Mark, do you Mark? Probably not. So Mark when are you going to warn us about the choo-choo trains? Here I thought we might discuss politics but you'd rather campaign for your boy. As much as I dislike Doyle, I think he's doing twice the job as the lack of vision, just say no, tea bagging champion, Scott Kevin Walker. Heaven help this state if he ever is in charge. Scott Walker indeed.
