I hope you meant to say cosmopolitan (i.e. worldly). If you did not know that a city of more than 3 million was a "metropolis" (and therefore automatically "metropolitan"), I suppose you did either did not read the guidebook to Madrid or ever looked up a word in a dictionary. I guess that is what happens without editors.
