Don't feel bad if you've never seen the plaque affixed to 100 East Wisconsin, explaining the historical relevance of the northwest corner of Water and Wisconsin. It's on the lower level of the building, facing the RiverWalk. I've passed it countless times and never noticed. But one day it caught my eye. I took some photographs and spent some time digging to fill in a bit more of the story of this corner that is the birthplace of Milwaukee.

Blue ribbons are flying on several light posts along Wisconsin Avenue in Downtown Milwaukee. They look great in the sunshine but look closer and you see they are promoting awareness around the need for foster care and adoptive parenting.

In the pile of morning emails, one stood out today. Mark Pasch, owner of Mark Pasch Ltd. in Bayside, shared a New Year's message from his father, who owned Polacheck's, a men's store at 227 E. Wisconsin Ave.

A major complaint of people living and working Downtown and the Historic Third Ward is the lack of a large, modern convenience store like Walgreen's or CVS. So, I'm calling for one now.
