Missing the world's quirkiest movies
Now that the Oriental turns 80 -- or more accurately, turned 80 in July - it's got me thinking about when I moved to Milwaukee nearly 25 years ago and the Oriental was an oasis (which means I've been an Oriental patron for almost a third of its lifetime!).

Oriental celebrates 80 years with silent classic
The Oriental Theatre turned 80 back in July and to celebrate, one of Milwaukee's last remaining movie palaces -- and certainly its most celebrated -- hosts an event on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.

With more than 30 sold-out screenings, it's little surprise that the Milwaukee International Film Festival announced a 26 percent increase in attendance over last year.

Irony was pretty ironic when "Grindhouse" projector actually broke down
I loved the line by William Shatner in "Airplane II" when he said, " Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes." But how much more ironic could it be that exactly half-way through Sunday night's showing of "Grindhouse" at the Oriental Theatre, the projector actually broke?
