Patrolling the Summerfest grounds with MPD
When most patrons think of security at Summerfest, they probably first conjure up thoughts of the burly "red shirts" patrolling the grounds. But uniformed cops are there at all times, providing backup, ready to act if things get out of hand for the unarmed security. Last Friday, we did a "walk along" with two of these Milwaukee officers.

The cliché has played out in the movies and on TV countless times: a man pulls up to a suggestively-dressed woman; she leans in the window and asks what he's looking for; a price is negotiated and she hops inside. While many in Milwaukee have heard stories about notorious pick-up zones, the world's oldest profession, like everything else, has gone high-tech. Consider it another example of the internet changing the way people do business.

What Tropical Records and MPD have in common
Although I don't ever expect to find my name, I always scour the unclaimed property lists that these days take up more space in the local newspaper than actual news. I look for the names of my family members, too. When the list first appeared over the weekend, I noticed something curious. The Milwaukee Police Department has something in common with Jamaican-American record shops of the past.
