Gig roundup: Williams tries something a bit different
You think you know Dar Williams and her music already, don't you? But, wait. Stop the presses! Williams' latest record on Razor & Tie, "The Promised Land," was produced by Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Ben Lee, Pete Yorn) and isn't entirely what you expect.

Miramar's Stace expands to South Side's Modjeska
Bill Stace will expand his entertainment empire to the South Side. Stace will host shows at the Modjeska Theatre on Mitchell Street after he gets a liquor license from the Common Council. The Licenses Committee gave its approval last week.

Dr. Dog joins Black Keys at The Rave
Dr. Dog isn’t a good name for a band. I’m sorry. A 1970s AM radio dj playing ‘50s music? Fine, Dr. Dog is great. A cartoon character? Perfect name. But I digress. What I’m really here to tell you is that this ill-named band plays at The Modjeska Tuesday, Nov. 28 with the Black Keys and you should check them out.

Local boy returns to reopen "Elvis lives" debate
The world premiere of "Attack of the Elvis Impersonators," book, music and lyrics by Lory Lazarus, takes place in the historic Modjeska Theater located at 1128 W. Mitchell St., August 2,-4 and 9-11. OMC recently talked to Lazarus about his career and the show. Read on and then enter to win tickets!

Built in 1910, Mitchell Street's Modjeska Theatre originally staged Vaudeville and Burlesque shows until it became a full-time moviehouse. Now, it hosts concerts, dance, theater, movies and more. Tom Stajmiger talks to Joe White and co-owner Diane Johnson about what's ahead.
