Though local hip-hop raconteur and OnMilwaukee.com contributor JC Poppe has put an end to his Milwaukee UP blog chronicling Brew City hip-hop, thankfully he's staying the course with his ongoing series of mega-gigs to raise money for great causes. Hip-Hop Hates Illiteracy takes place Friday. April 6 at the Cactus Club.

The idea of giving up the identity that I have cultivated over the last five years is a troublesome one. I have been an active member of the Milwaukee hip-hop community since 2007 and my love for the quality and quantity of output from its finest sources only grew that love. The part that music has played in my development is a reality that has recently become much more a discussion of my past rather than my present, and it is due to this attitude that I must end the run of Milwaukee UP.

I've been talking to music video director Xavier Ruffin about the video for Gerald Walker's "Please Shut The F*** Up" semi-regularly over the last month or so and the conversation was always left at how good the video is going to be and how much I'm going to like it. Today the video premiered on Dailymotion.com's front page and I have to say that Ruffin was right, the video is very good and I absolutely do like it.

I came across Big Caption again while running the independent version of Milwaukee UP through a mixtape release. I was happy with the quality of his bars but wanted to hear him over original beats instead of industry standards.

The Blaxploitation isn't over, and Adebisi wants you to know that. The New York City-by-way-of-Milwaukee emcee just released a new song from his forthcoming project, "TheBlaxploitation Part II," the sequel to his mixtape "The Blaxploitation" that was released several months back in connection with website TheMadBloggers.com.
