Rep hires Mark Clements as new artistic director
The Milwaukee Repertory Theater has chosen a British theater artist to be its next artistic director. Mark Clements, who has been living in Philadelphia and directing at the Walnut Street Theatre, the oldest operating theater in the country, will succeed Joseph Hanreddy in the top artistic job at the Rep. Hanreddy is leaving this spring after 17 years in the position.

"Inspecting" the Rep's season opener ... and more.
Prolific regional playwright Jeffrey Hatcher authored a new adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's "The Government Inspector" for Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater last year, and he tweaked the script for the Milwaukee Repertory Theater production that opened the company's 2009-10 Quadracci Powerhouse Theater season last week.

A wealth of on-stage magic: our top theater groups
Despite the recent loss of Milwaukee Shakespeare, Cream City still has one of the most vibrant theater scenes in the country and visitors and newcomers are always amazed that a city the size of Milwaukee is home to so many and varied stage offerings. While thinking about what we're thankful for, we started talking about this fecundity of the thespian arts and each of us began to shout out favorites. So, we decided to share them with you.
