Meet the Milwaukee Poetry Contest winners
OnMilwaukee.com received scads of submissions for the Fifth Annual Milwaukee Poetry Contest, but two pieces stood out from the rest. Louisa Loveridge-Gallas’ poem, “The Estate of Grace,” received first place, and Catherine Averill’s “Milwaukee: The Leaving” took second.

The Milwaukee Poetry Contest ends Friday, Sept. 29. First place is a $100 gift certificate to Schwartz Bookshops, which is a lot of pages. Or a lot of lattes, if you're more into beans than books.

Brookes' poetry vaults from pages to airwaves
Local poet Eliet Brookes is one of the judges for OMC's Milwaukee Poetry Contest. The nomadic poet/artist moved 34 times in her life, compared poetry writing to throwing up and recently released a poetry/music CD called "The Miles Left Over."
