Pole winner Dario Franchitti moved into a tie atop the IZOD IndyCar Series points standings with a victory Sunday in the Milwaukee 225 at the Milwaukee Mile.

In the days leading up to the Milwaukee 225, somebody who knows a thing or two about putting together big time events said that the race, the first major motorsports event at the Milwaukee Mile in nearly two years, amounts to a referendum on racing in Milwaukee. If the attendance Sunday was any indicator, the referendum failed to pass.

You may not recognize David Hobbs but if you've lived in Milwaukee long enough - or watch racing on television - you've certainly heard his voice. You might even have purchased a car from him. Hobbs, 72, is a broadcaster with Speed Network. Previously, he did work for CBS and ESPN. He's covered all kinds of racing, from open-wheel to NASCAR and now focusing primarily on Formula One events. His car dealership, David Hobbs Honda, is also a sponsor of the Milwaukee 225.

While the Milwaukee Mile sat silent last season, the venerable racetrack remained on the minds of Indy Car Series drivers. Big-time racing is back this season, if only for one weekend, as the IZOD IndyCar Series stops in town Sunday for the Milwaukee 225. The race marks the return of open-wheel racing to one of the sport's best-known venues.
