Another home opener is in the books, with the Brewers taking a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Cubs when Rickie Weeks slid home with the winning run. That touched off a celebration at Miller Park and inspired a lot of notes for the Scorecard.

Saturday Scorecard: The Brewers' closing argument
It's hard to blame the Brewers for inserting Carlos Villanueva into the closer's role while Trevor Hoffman recovers from a strained oblique muscle. Villanueva always seems cool under fire, so it's not a stretch to think that he can handle the job. There is, however, one slight problem. Moving Villanueva to the back end of the game weakens the Brewers' bullpen in the critical sixth-seventh-eighth segment of the game that often means the difference between victory and defeat.

Brewers to Dale Sveum: "Thanks, but no thanks."
The Brewers announced a trio of moves tonight. They gave general manager Doug Melvin a three-year contract extension that will keep him in Milwaukee through 2012, removed Dale Sveum from consideration for the manager's job and dismissed hitting coach Jim Skaalen. Melvin continues his search for a manager and experience could be a key factor in the decision.

December. I'm not ready for winter yet.
March. By then, I need winter to be over.
There's no use complaining or hoping for better weather in Wisconsin.
Actually, I like snow.
