Summerfest 2011 is officially in the books, and now that everything's said and done we can finally take a breather and let it all sink in. This year offered up a whole lot of cool (and a few not-so-cool) new things to do, see and taste, and we've taken it upon ourselves to recognize the Big Gig's most notable highlights in the first-ever Smiley Awards.

If you want to avoid major crowds, have no definite musical destination in mind and want to soak up some sun and some Big Gig vibes, a weekday afternoon visit to Summerfest might just be what the doctor ordered.

Wisconsin's own Locksley has added its voice to the chorus of musical Packers praise. The band's "Oh, Wisconsin!," a tribute to America's Dairyland and its NFL franchise, is available for streaming and free download.

Day 2 of the VERGE Music Festival brings the intelligent power-pop of Weezer, the `60s-tinged jangle of Wisconsin natives Locksley, the drive of Atlanta's Manchester Orchestra and the geeky charm of the Raveonettes. That's just at one stage. If the rain holds off, it should be a memorable closing day for the inaugural festival.

This morning Summerfest officials announced that Manchester Orchestra, Madison's Locksley, Empires, The Loyal Divide and Violetness from Chicago, and L.A.'s Scarlet Grey have been added to the lineup for the Verge Music Festival, June 4-5, on the Summerfest grounds. And we have some more news, too.
