In past years, this category was dominated by frozen custard stands, but in recent years, Milwaukee has seen an explosion of new offerings like frozen yogurt, gelato and specialty ice cream shops. But custard is still the king in Milwaukee, and once again, Kopp's ran away from the field to win the title of Milwaukee's Best Frozen Treat.

The fun part about this week's question is that it garnered responses from people who really did move away from Milwaukee. It's interesting to hear which restaurants truly were missed when the eatery's food is no longer an option.

Today, the custard stand located at 6005 W. Appleton Ave. isn't one of the city's most famous even though it's one of the oldest. This spring, the business changed from Robert's to Junior's, but originally, it had an even more recognizable name: Kopp's.

Since 1984, July has been National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month - today! - has been National Ice Cream Day. Did you know that nearly 10 percent of all milk produced in the U.S. becomes ice cream? And 63 percent of that is consumed in Milwaukee? OK, I made that last stat up, but we sure do love our frozen dairy.
