Saturday Scorecard: Running a bit off course
The Brewers are sputtering into the all-star break and need a dose of leadership -- not in the form of half-cocked comments or team meetings. They need a well-pitched game, a big two-out hit and some improved play. In the next two days and next week in Cincinnati, somebody is going to have to step forward like Charlie Steiner in the old ESPN commercial and say "Follow me! Follow me to freedom!" or it's going to be a long second half.

Saturday Scorecard: The Brewers' closing argument
It's hard to blame the Brewers for inserting Carlos Villanueva into the closer's role while Trevor Hoffman recovers from a strained oblique muscle. Villanueva always seems cool under fire, so it's not a stretch to think that he can handle the job. There is, however, one slight problem. Moving Villanueva to the back end of the game weakens the Brewers' bullpen in the critical sixth-seventh-eighth segment of the game that often means the difference between victory and defeat.
