A Justin Currie gig scouting report
Last night I went to Chicago to get a little advance taste of Friday's Justin Currie and Angie Mattson show at Shank Hall. On the second night of a two-week U.S. tour, Currie played two sets at the intimate Schuba's and Michigan's Mattson opened both of them.

Pollock's solo debut leads her to Milwaukee
The Delgados broke up last year and singer Emma Pollock has a solo CD, "Watch the Fireworks," which arrived via 4AD Records in September. She comes to Milwaukee this week.

Och, aye: Trinity dances to another gold in Glasgow
Milwaukee’s Trinity Academy of Dance won its first gold medal in nearly a decade as the Trinity’s Junior Girls Figure dance choreography took first place at the 37th World Championship in Irish Dancing held in Glasgow, Scotland recently.

Sweet "Dear Frankie" sidesteps schmaltz
Leave it to Britain -- in this case Scotland -- to give us another unassumingly wonderful film about a family trying to make the best of things. In the case of "Dear Frankie," directed by Shona Auerbach and written by Andrea Gibb, it's a story about a deaf boy and his mother.
