2008 picks: Maureen Post
The 105th anniversary of Harley, the Brewers' trip to the playoffs, the Summer Olympics and the election of our first black president all made 2008 one of the most incredible years in recent memory. But it wasn't all events. There were plenty of albums, shows and books that made their mark in my 2008.

2008 picks: Julie Lawrence
It's hard to believe 2008 is coming to a close already, isn't it? Perhaps it was the zany election, but has felt like time has passed me by quicker than usual. It was good year for entertainment, and also a good year for Milwaukee. Here's a list of some of my personal highlights, from movies, to music to TV and events.

Fleet Foxes please a packed Pabst
Incorporating acoustic and electric guitar, the mandolin and a load of percussion instruments including the maracas and the tambourine, Fleet Foxes flowed from one song into the next frequently changing instruments and vocalists. A laidback percussion and ground baseline reminds listeners of the organic creation, progressive thought and innate purity in bands like the Decembrists and Band of Horses.
