Advertising strategies that go in one ear and out the other
I'm probably more impressed than the average Joe when I see or hear good ads, and I'm especially puzzled when I see companies blowing their money on bad ads. For every excellent ad in Milwaukee, there must be 10 terrible ones.

Paid actor testimonials
Commercials make me laugh, even when that's not their intended purpose. I particularly enjoy the informercials that show the frustrated guy who couldn't imagine living without his Snuggie or Rotato. But lately, I've been getting a kick out of local commercials that feature "paid actor testimonials."

Fortunately, my wife shares my appreciation for kitsch, and while we set our sights incredibly low, we finally took the plunge and attended a starving artists show this weekend at the Brookfield Sheraton Hotel.
