Barrett not likely to run for governor
Democratic insiders believe Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will decide not to launch a campaign to be Wisconsin's next governor, and some say Gov. Jim Doyle is "shopping" for another candidate to challenge Barbara Lawton for the party's nomination.

Candidates lining up for position of "Lite Governor"
A long-time Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor once said that if he woke up, called the office and the governor wasn't dead, he would have fulfilled the constitutional duties of the office. They don't call it Lite Governor for nothing. Every once in awhile, there's even talk of abolishing the position, most recently with a proposal by state Sen. Alan Lasee (R-De Pere). Democratic Senate President Fred Risser told a Madison TV station that he has supported the idea in the past, but hasn't made up his mind on the current proposal. Yet a line is forming to run for the job.

Supervisors dive in to battle Walker on public pools
So Scott Walker wants to close six pools -- several on the North Side -- to build one large aquatic center on the South Side? How does that make budgetary sense? It does to County Exec Walker who wants to spend $11 million to build the aquatic center while closing Pulaski and Noyes indoor pools and the outdoor pools at Washington, Holler and Jackson Parks and Pelican Cove.
