Entrepreneur turns up the heat in Waukesha
It all started with a love for Frank's Red Hot -- that cayenne pepper sauce that tastes delicious on just about everything. It lit a fire under Waukesha's Dave Mennenoh to create his own, small-batch sauce company.

Waukesha thirst puts pressure on Milwaukee
The water wouldn't begin to flow for five-to-eight years, but the beginning of the process is just around the corner. That means the pressure is on Milwaukee, Waukesha's preferred seller; Milwaukee has the highest quality drinking water and its pipes are closest to Waukesha.

Waukesha's thirst for lake water raises questions
No political or environmental question in this region has gotten more attention in the last few years than the City of Waukesha's desire to pipe in Lake Michigan water. A diversion to a community like Waukesha that is entirely outside the Great Lakes Basin is permissible under certain conditions laid out in a 2008 agreement with the seven other Great Lakes states and two Canadian provinces.

Scouting report: Taylor's People's Park in Waukesha
If someone mentions Taylor's, you likely think immediately of the jet-setter bar on the corner of Jefferson and Wells Streets that has accommodated Jazz in the Park patrons and the nighttime cocktail crowd since the mid-1990s. Earlier this year, Dan and Jim Taylor brought some of the elements of the hotspot to Waukesha's revitalized Downtown.

Generations seeks small-plate success in Waukesha
Don't expect fancy foodstuffs or presentations at Generations at Five Points. Like the minimal signage on the restaurant's front, menu selections are simple, clean and no-frills. Diners can choose from a soup of the day (on our visit, this was a creamy tomato basil for $4), chopped salad ($4), which deviates from the norm with mixed mesclun greens and a choice of dressing, or house salad ($4), and a variety of options apportioned for two.

Taylor's moves west for the People's Park
Seemingly an instantaneous Waukesha staple, People's Park is located in the heart of Historic Waukesha. Mimicking the large open windows and light airy feel of Taylor's in Downtown Milwaukee, People's Park redefines the Taylor's concept with a full lunch and dinner menu, quaint booths and local art.

The Waukesha restaurant guide
Last year was a big year for downtown Waukesha, which saw the addition of the Black Trumpet Restaurant in the Clark Hotel, Ray's on South and Sakura Japan Sushi & Grill, its first sushi restaurant. Here is an updated account of what the city is bringing to the dining table. While this list doesn't cover every last eatery, it includes the newcomers as well as several perennial favorites.

Eating Italian in Waukesha
With all the restaurants that serve Italian food, especially pizza, how does one choose a good one? That's easy. Follow a little Italian woman into one. If it's good for mamma, it's got to be good.

The Greguskas carved out a loyal following for Discount Liquor in the '60s by keeping prices low and offering as wide a selection as possible. The same holds true, says their son Thomas, of the business model today.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
