Milwaukee's best Thai restaurant, 2008: The King and I
Capitalizing on years of shopping in open markets and cooking alongside their Thai mothers, owners Bob and Marie Phoungphol prepare authentic Thai cuisine just as they learned decades ago. Rice Palace lunch buffet draws faithful crowd
Certainly, the Rice Palace, 3730 W. National Ave., is no secret. It's gotten some coverage since opening about two years ago in a neighborhood that has a growing population of Asian Americans and a growing list of good eateries. But this casual pan-Asian restaurant isn't a hot spot yet, either.

Bangkok House a hidden gem
Bangkok House is just minutes from downtown, but in a place where few would expect to find it: in a mini-mall below the contrails of jets landing and taking off from Mitchell International Airport. Head down there and you'll find a Thai restaurant to rival the old stand-bys.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
