One sign says it all
I stopped at Starbucks at Red Arrow Park yesterday and couldn't help but laugh at our sign on the ice rink. It couldn't be more true, especially this weekend.

Welcome to Alterras
One of our favorite Milwaukee-isms here in the OnMilwaukee.com editorial office is the Brew City penchant for adding an "s" to the names of local businesses that don't really have them. As in, let's have a coffee at Alterra's.

The warm weather this week had everyone thinking about spring, but we sometimes like to go against the grain in the editorial office. That's why one of our recommendations this week is a lush Christmas record by British artist Kate Rusby. We also recommend a provocative book about Starbucks, a helpful home remedy for the flu, some tasty organic yogurt and a new lunch spot on the East Side.

Your vote gets you a few free things
Tomorrow, besides selecting the future of this country, your vote gets you a few free things. Milwaukee's business owners, urging citizens to get out and make a difference, offer goods on them to thank you for exercising your political right.

The pennant race is making us thirsty in the editorial office. We're talking about tasty tea, delicious beer, a good wine at a reasonable price -- and we're drinking our beverages while watching Season One of "Lost" (pictured) on DVD. Oh, and we're talking about music and an iPod accessory, too.

Will your favorite Milwaukee Starbucks close?
In light of today's news that Starbucks will close an additional 500 U.S. stores and cut 7% of its work force, I couldn't help but wonder if any Milwaukee-area stores will be on the list.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
