Brewers roster has a balanced look
Only 10 players on the Brewers' current roster were on the 2008 National League Division Series roster. Considering the nature of baseball today, the turnover isn't that surprising. But combining the veteran experience of Randy Wolf, Greg Zaun and LaTroy Hawkins with the youth of Alcides Escobar and Carlos Gomez around an established core could be a key to success in 2010.

Brewers notebook: Macha will be back in 2010
The 2009 season came to an end for the Brewers Sunday in St. Louis with a 10-inning, 9-7 victory over the Cardinals. The victory gave Milwaukee an 80-82 record -- the first losing season in manager Ken Macha's career. Before the game, general manager Doug Melvin announced that Macha will be back in 2010 with a team option for a return in 2011.

Too early to get up in arms about Brewers' chances
The Brewers have been sagging for weeks, but it's too early to write off the season just yet. Sure, the Brewers have weaknesses that have to be handled. The bottom of the batting order is awful. The starting pitching is schizophrenic and you seemingly can't depend on anyone, including Yovani Gallardo. The Brewers still have some strengths, chief among them an easy schedule in August.

American League snatches another All-Star victory
Strip away the pomp, pageantry, Sheryl Crow's national anthem, the ceremonial fly-over and the presidential first pitch, well, the 80th All-Star Game played out like just another summer rerun. The American League beat the National League, 4-3, in a crisp, well-pitched and quick exhibition played before a packed house Tuesday night at Busch Stadium that included President Obama.

Brewers Notebook: Time for a much-needed break
Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder and Trevor Hoffman are in St. Louis for the All-Star Game. The rest of their Brewers teammates, though, are getting three much-needed days off to regroup and refocus after a disappointing end to the first half.

Brewers Notebook: Braun wants some help
Ryan Braun has never been one to bite his tongue. So it shouldn't come as a surprise, then, that just a few hours after his was voted onto to the National League All-Star team, and his Brewers were knocked around by the Cubs, Braun let it be known that the General Manager in him wants to see the actual GM, Doug Melvin, make a move for some more pitching.

Brewers Notebook: Braun, Fielder carrying offense
Despite the Brewers' well-documented offensive struggles this season, there has been one bright spot. OK, make that two bright spots. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder have carried the Brewers' on their backs many times this season and are terrorizing opposing pitchers.

Players, not manager, dictate Brewers' fortunes
The problems seem very familiar: an inconsistent offense, ineffective starting pitching and an overworked bullpen. In the past, these issues have led to managerial changes. But if the Brewers want to prove last year was no fluke, they'll need to fire on all cylinders soon. Luckily, there's plenty of baseball left to be played.
