Bon Iver silences the Riverside's full house
Although Justin Vernon joked about the limited band repertoire, tonight's set list included everything from "Creature Fear" and "Skinny Love," off the album, to "Blood Bank" and "Beach Baby," from the EP. The band, overtly conscientious of it being the tour's final show, thanked the audience repeatedly.

It has already been a busy week in the editorial office, but we still had time to tout a handful of cool items, such as a cool way to make pesto, a local concert DVD from Spinal Tap, a still-hip music magazine and men's clothing line and a CD of new music complete with catchy tracks and pleasing cover art.

The Decemberists blend old, new and add a bit of Heart
Playing two full sets, the first pulled entirely from "Hazards of Love" and the second drawing from previous works like "The Crane Wife" and "Picaresque," the show satisfied the optimal mixture of old and new that a live show crowd demands without fail.

Gig roundup: Decemberists roll into the Riverside
If you notice that the guy on your volleyball team or the girl in the next cubicle is smiling a lot this week or has a spring in his/her step, you may want to ask the following question: Are you going to see The Decemberists? The pride of Portland visits town for a sold-out show Friday night at the Riverside Theater and the anticipation is growing for fans -- particularly those who witnessed the band's previous visits at The Pabst.

Gig roundup: Animal Collective hits the Riverside
Baltimore's Animal Collective is one of the hotter bands of the moment, which explains why the band's Tuesday night show in Milwaukee was moved from the Pabst Theater to the more spacious Riverside. Does "hot" equal "good?" Depends on whom you ask. Many people who listened to the band's January release "Merriweather Post Pavilion," were ready to proclaim it as the best album of 2009. As is often the case, others dismissed it as an overhyped pile of hooey.

Milwaukee Talks: Comedian Frank Caliendo, 2009
Other than once, a few weeks ago -- when he unwittingly walked onto David Letterman's set with his fly unzipped -- exposure has not been a problem for Waukesha native Frank Caliendo in the last year. He has his own comedy show on TBS, a spot on Fox's NFL pre-game show, a regular turn on the late-night talk shows, commercials for Dish Network and an army of promoters waiting to book his standup act, which he does at the Riverside Theater Saturday night.

Intense Atmosphere at the Riverside
Despite 11 years of writing, touring and recording, Atmosphere still insists on a reaction. Indifferent about social acceptance, genre inclusion or industry approval, Slug (aka Sean Daley) is satisfied with pushing a reaction; adamant on an individual progression or evolution -- anything but complacency validates him internally.
