Brewers Notebook: Braun, Fielder carrying offense
Despite the Brewers' well-documented offensive struggles this season, there has been one bright spot. OK, make that two bright spots. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder have carried the Brewers' on their backs many times this season and are terrorizing opposing pitchers.

Emotions run the gamut during Brewers' streak
I shouldn't be depressed, but I am. As soon as Rickie Weeks was replaced after his first at-bat on Sunday, I had a bad feeling that this wasn't something minor. Reality struck Monday when the news from Arizona said the Weeks would be out for the year with a torn tendon sheath -- this time in his left wrist.

Brewers Notebook: Weeks is out for the season
Second baseman Rickie Weeks, who has provided a spark at the top of the Brewers' lineup this season, will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn sheath tendon in his left wrist. The injury, which is similar to one week suffered in 2006, will require a recovery period of four to six months.

Outside the lines Brewers banter
Being at the game last night, and specifically, watching it among the experts in the press box, allowed me tons of time for reflection in such a slow-motion, offensive laden evening. Here's what I walked away with.

Saturday Scorecard: Frank talk about Madden news
When iconic National Football League broadcaster John Madden announced his retirement this week, virtually everyone in the sports media scrambled to Rolodex and frantically made calls seeking comment... from Frank Caliendo. "I got an e-mail from my manager asking if I'd heard that John Madden had retired," the Waukesha native and UWM graduate said in a phone interview from his home in Tempe, Ariz. "I said `Only from 75 radio stations!"

What this town needs is a good sports controversy
It's always nice to have a winning team in town. When the Brewers made the playoffs last season, it lifted everyone's spirits. When teams aren't good, though, you need to find excitement in other ways. Without controversies, the sports world can be a pretty boring place.

Brewers Notebook: Suppan's slide continues
Jeff Suppan left the field Sunday night to a chorus of boos from the Miller Park crowd after yet another awful outing. Suppan is 0-2 this season with a 12.91 ERA after allowing 11 runs, 11 hits and seven walks to go with two strikeouts. For a team that lacks depth in the rotation and has an untested bullpen, those are brutal numbers ... especially when they come with a price tag of $12 million per season.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
