Local engineers agree: mastering gives CDs pro sound
Everyone who looks at the credits on a CD will have seen a line for "mastering." But like the "best boy" and "gaffer" credits at the end of a film, few people know what it really means. Oddly enough, many musicians don't even quite get it.

Arlis R. Jones, owner of ARJ's Jazz and Blues Club on Milwaukee's north side, has hosted scores of local and national acts. Narada's Alex Bugnon, a Swiss keyboardist, will take the stage on Fri., Feb. 13.

Buffett shows pop side on latest disc
Milwaukee-based musician, composer and producer Peter Buffett's latest project is a collection of 14 tracks recorded at his East Side studio with guests like Robyn Pluer, The Gufs' Goran Kralj, Citizen King's Malcolm Micheles, The Great Outdoors, Narada artist Kim Robertson and others. Many of the tracks are featured in the film, "Full Ride."

Starr soars to new heights
The Mississippi born and bred rocker Garrison Starr is coming back to Milwaukee. This time 'round, though, Starr, whose latest disc is "Songs From Take-off to Landing," released on a subsidiary of the Milwaukee-based Narada Records, is sharing the stage with Melissa Etheridge at the Marcus Amphitheatre. Jazz in the Park boasts Brazilian veteran Purim
Thanks to Narada, Milwaukee now has a connection with one of Brazil's greatest living performers. Flora Purim, who appears at Jazz in the Park, Thurs., July 25 for a free concert, recently released a new disc on NaradaJazz, an imprint of the Milwaukee-based record label.

Narada-distributed disc raises funds for AIDS battle
Peter Gabriel's Real World Records -- distributed in the U.S. by Milwaukee-based Narada Records -- has teamed up with the Mercury Phoenix Trust to release "Spirit of Africa" and raise awareness in the fight against AIDS. The music comes from 11 African nations and features songs of resilience and optimism.
