Wisconsin's oldest department store recently celebrated its 106th birthday. Although the eclectic stock changes regularly, the building itself -- as well as many of the employees -- remains the same. The wide, wooden staircases creak, the "bargain basement" smells like a basement, and Essie still works in lingerie.

Bay View pizzeria housed in a bit of history
Atop a bluff in Bay View, overlooking the city and harbor of Milwaukee, sits a restaurant named Dom and Phil's DeMarini's. Few likely know that the structure once served as an AMVET Post for American veterans and prior to that, a mess hall for WWII prisoners of war housed at Mitchell Field.
