Green Bay Replay: Buccaneers 38, Packers 28
The second half of the Packers' season is no longer about driving for a division title or chasing a playoff berth. In the wake of a stunning loss to previously winless Tampa Bay Sunday afternoon at Raymond James Stadium, the remaining eight games on Green Bay's schedule will be a battle for survival and a referendum on the team's leadership, specifically head coach Mike McCarthy.

Plenty of blame to go around for Packers struggles
At 4-4, the Packers are far from out of playoff competition. But at the same time, Green Bay is far from being a legitimate contender. There's plenty of reasons and plenty of blame to go around, but ultimately, the root of the problems can be found on the sideline and inside the big, corner office at 1265 Lombardi Ave.

Vikings showdown puts McCarthy in the spotlight
The focus will be on the quarterbacks Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field, and that's understandable. In addition to a referendum on Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, the Packers-Vikings game will provide information about Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy. A victory will silence his critics. A loss or lackluster effort may fuel the debate about his acumen.

Things in sports that we can (happily) live without
It's hard to fathom life without sports, especially during a week leading up to the Packers playing at Favre-a-palooza. The games are just too important to the fabric of our culture. There are, however, a few things in sports that we can live without. OnMilwaukee.com sports columnist Dave Begel, who is old and crotchety enough to get irritated by things, offers his list this week.

A sure sign of summer: The Packers start practice
Memorial Day is in the books. The temperature still hasn't hit 90 degrees. The Brewers are playing wonderful and exciting baseball and they might even keep it up all year. But, none of that really matters because today is the start of the Packers' season.
That's right. Organized team activities begin today at Lambeau Field. OTA's are a sure sign that hitting hard for real is right around the corner. And who in the world says that the seasons for sports teams are too long?

Packers add toughness, defense to roster in draft
The Packers' objectives in the draft, murky beforehand, came into focus over the weekend. General manager Ted Thompson added eight players -- three on offense and five on defense. The acquisitions, which included first-round picks B.J. Raji (pictured) and Clay Matthews of USC, show that new defensive coordinator Dom Capers is serious about upgrading a run defense that was horrible in '08.

Packers prepare to face the Bears and the elements
The folks who scheduled the Green Bay-Chicago matchup for "Monday Night Football" in late December knew it would be numbingly cold. Weather.com is forecasting a kickoff temperature between 7 and 12 degrees, with 16-mile per hour westerly winds creating a wind chill of -6 to -12. For last year's game on Dec. 23, the kickoff temperature was 16 degrees, and the wind chill was -2, with wind gusts of 40 miles per hour.

Green Bay Replay: Vikings 28, Packers 27
Outplayed by a wide margin on both sides of the ball, the Packers saw their chance to steal a huge victory against a hated rival sail wide right when Mason Crosby missed a 52-yard field goal in the closing seconds Sunday afternoon in Minnesota. Now the Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers (pictured) have to regroup for a huge game next Sunday against Chicago.
