Election reflections
Now that the 2008 presidential election is officially in the books, America can begin its Wednesday morning quarterbacking. I'm personally ready start thinking about other things -- like, if it will snow this weekend -- but before I move on, I have a few closing reflections on this most historic of elections.

The last (best?) speeches of the presidential race
One of the longer, tougher and more heated presidential campaigns ended last night with two memorable speeches. Our "Video of the Day" offers a look at Barack Obama's acceptance speech in Chicago and John McCain's concession speech in Arizona.

Alderman suggest some interesting budget cuts
Milwaukee aldermen resorted to some intriguing attempts at snipping expenses from the city budget. Some of the more creative ideas were axing the city's official weather forecaster and cutting books from the library.

McCain's character re-emerges in final days of race
Desperation has brought out a side of John McCain that didn't really become him. Though it's easy for Democrats to forget it, McCain made two moves at the end of the race that showed his true colors.

Talking politics with Channel 12's Mike Gousha
Like an accountant during tax season, a snow plow driver after a blizzard or a retail store manager the day after Thanksgiving, Gousha -- who is a special contributing anchor / reporter at Channel 12, where he hosts "UPFRONT with Mike Gousha," and a Distinguished Fellow in Law and Public Policy at Marquette University Law School -- has been busy covering the upcoming election.

Grading the candidates' Web sites: 2008
Just like in the last election, the local candidates you can vote for in the Milwaukee area have all but ignored their Web presences. Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama, obviously, took their sites very seriously. But in congressional and state assembly races, well, it's not so good.

Campaign ads intensify the noise of election season
Four more days and the ads will end. What will commercial watchers do? It was a political season in which there seemed to be so many Obama or McCain pitches that they were an incessant intrusion on our television viewing.

Whole hog poll fog
I don't know about you, but I'm getting a little too wrapped up in next Tuesday's election. I'm spending waaaay too much time on the Web sites of CNN.com and the super-detailed fivethirtyeight.com. When I get home from work, I'm watching utterly too much cable news and commentary.

Are there still undecided voters?
With a week and half until the election, I'm wondering how anyone could still be on the fence as to who they plan to vote for. I mean, what don't you know by now?

Music adds to soundtrack of noisy election season
Music is adding to the soundtrack of already noisy presidential election. Some artists, like Bruce Springsteen (pictured) and Hank Williams, Jr., are endorsing candidates. Others have been bickering that political operatives try to create the appearance of endorsements by playing music at campaign functions.

Surprise! These teens are tuned in
This election, like many Presidential races of the past, is mired in controversy. With both sides contradicting each other and reckless claims flying across the board, it's hard for young, inexperienced voters to know where the candidate's stands on all the issues. Curious to find out what young voters believe about each candidate and even more, what each candidate actually stands for, I talked to two young voters and did some research of my own.

Do Americans demand another "folksy" president?
Americans elect folksy presidents. For the past 30 years, every man who's graced the Oval Office has been incredibly folksy, the kind of guy America wants to sit down with and drink a beer.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
