MAM shows Catesby and the naturalists
As the super-cutting-edge "Act/React" exhibition slows to its close on Jan. 11, Milwaukee Art Museum has a number of other exhibitions on view. One that is perhaps the opposite of "Act" in some ways is "Catesby, Audubon, and the Discovery of a New World," which opened Dec. 18 and runs through March 22, 2009.

David Byrne's Milwaukee travelogue
David Byrne was in town recently for a show at The Pabst Theater. While he was here, he hooked up with local musician and man about town Paul Finger. The story is all in Byrne's recent blog entry.

MAM's "Act/React" ditches the middleman
Interactive exhibits are nothing new. And George Fifield, guest curator of Milwaukee Art Museum's "Act/React" show, which opens today -- would be the first to admit that. But, he says, that's not what "Act/React" is, exactly. Thanks to its lack of interface, "Act/React" is the world's first unmediated interactive exhibition.

This Friday, Cedar Block takes over the Milwaukee Art Museum with a one-night-only exhibit of local artists paying tribute to Gilbert & George, the legendary duo which has been collaborating artistically for so long they consider themselves to be not two artists, but one.

"Foto" captures
adventurous spirit of
European photographers
It's refreshing to see an exhibition -- nay, a fine exhibition -- of 20th century photography and see very few recognizable names and very few "landmark" images.
