'Tis the season to stop at House of Frank N Stein
With its glowing sign piercing through the darkness of the night and illuminating the large building like a full moon, the exterior of the House of Frank N Stein more than looks the part. But it's nothing compared to what awaits you inside.

Embracing our inner Halloween child
Other than April Fool's Day, today is one of my favorite days of the year at OnMilwaukee.com. As our office does every Halloween, every employee dons a costume and hams it up.

Trick-or-treat safety tips for a happy Halloween
The trick-or-treat experience varies from kid to kid. For some, going door to door for candy is a dream come true, but for other little people, the all-in-good-fun spookiness is very scary. Regardless of how your little ghosties interpret the particulars of All Hallow's Eve, it's important that everyone is safe.

Sunday Sound-off: Do you hand out candy for trick-or-treat?
Milwaukee's trick-or-treat is from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Do you stick around and hand out candy or do you make a point to leave during this time? And if you do hand out candy, will you give the sugary goods to kids not wearing costumes?

Locksley hits Madison for a Halloween homecoming
Locksley has been on the road for nearly a month, playing shows to promote its new 7-inch single on Wicked Cool Records and to its upcoming album, due in January. The band also has been dreaming up costume ideas and gags for what promises to be a highlight of the tour -- a gig at Freakfest on Halloween night in Madison.

Jim's Pumpkin Farm offers lots of cheap autumn fun
Set amid fields of soy beans, stands of corn and cornfields already cut, Jim's is a charming little farm -- complete with a babbling brook. We spent just under $15 for two hours or so of fun with two adults and two kids. We took home two big pumpkins, an acorn squash to make with supper, three ears of Indian corn and a tiny pumpkin, too.

Scaring little kiddies just for the fun of it
Partly on the request of a friend and partly to satisfy years of personal curiosity and a quest for instilling fear, I opted to be one of dozens of "actors" in the Oconomowoc Haunted High haunted house last weekend.

Hauntcon brings spirited mischief to Milwaukee
The tail end of April is the official six-month marker between any two Halloweens, and while last week we told you about Milwaukee's own Hallowang, we're still in the spirit this week with news on the sixth annual Hauntcon, the Haunted Attraction National Tradeshow and Convention at the Wyndham Airport Hotel and Convention Center, 4747 S. Howell Ave., April 30-May 4.

The most wonderful night of the year (for a cocktail)
The discussion cropped up in the editorial office the other day and we thought it would make a good discussion for Thanksgiving Eve. What is your favorite night of the year to enjoy a social drink? Is it tonight, which has a "reunion" vibe? Is it New Year's Eve, St. Patrick's Day or Opening Day, which have a "see how long you can stand" vibe? Is it Halloween, which has an "incognito" vibe? Or, is it another night that strikes your fancy?

Halloween reflections
Indeed, I have some fine memories from this weekend. I won the OnMilwaukee.com costume contest. I made an altar honoring my grandparents for Day of the Dead. A gnome nuzzled my chest at The Mad Planet.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
