St. Patrick's Scene: Brocach
Around dinner time tonight, there was a good mix of diners and drinkers at Brocach; not the crazy Water Street crowd and I honestly didn't see many that I would guessed had been out since 6 a.m.

Sunday night drinking
If I've already consumed beverages on Friday and / or Saturday night, drinking on Sunday evening seems excessive. Even though, chances are, I won't drink much -- or anything at all -- during the week.

Where's the freshest Guinness?
During the winter months, my beverage of choice is Guinness. Last night I had a pretty fresh pint at Paddy's Pub, 2339 N. Murray Ave., and I have always been impressed with the Guinness at Brocach, 1850 N. Water St. I'm wondering which other locales guarantee a fresh tap of this delicious Irish stout?

Sound-off: Does your beer choice change in winter?
Most breweries offer winter brews this time of year, which are usually darker and spicier than the others. Some beer drinkers, however, stick with the same brand all year 'round. How about you? Do you switch your beers choice based on the season, or is it always the same brands for you regardless of the weather?

Brocach features rare all-you-can-eat fish fry
The all-you-can-eat fish fry is a dying breed, but Water Street's Brocach Irish Pub and Restaurant still offers it, and not just on Friday nights. In fact, it's available every night of the week for $15. Brocach's fish fry is certainly a massive feast, but does the quality match the quantity?

Tapping a pint of Brewers fever
Bill Rouleau shares my unhealthy and rabid obsession with the Brewers, and I know he had something up his sleeve when I saw his coy smile as he walked over with a pint of Guinness.

Update on my home brewery
A few months ago, I blogged about my first homebrewing experience. Despite a peculiar smell, the first batch turned out OK.

Lamenting the dragon
I'm a big fan of Guinness, but long before I came to love the Guinness, I was hooked on the dragon. Jamaica's Dragon Stout, that is.

Is isinglass in your glass?
Being a devoted drinker of barbera and other wines from Piemonte, I asked my friend Domenico Ravizza of Vicara in Rosignano, Italy, about the use of animal gelatins in wine there.

Vegetarians: Beware of Guinness beer
I thought I was on a strict veggie diet, but I might have ingested dead fish particles. Oh well.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
