It is painfully ironic that Lee Sherman Dreyfus, Wisconsin's last populist governor, died on the eve of the Iowa caucuses, which mark the beginning of what will surely be the most disgusting, disheartening and dirty presidential election this country has ever seen.

Opinion: Is Mark Green right for Milwaukee?
There is an undercurrent of muttering among Southeast Wisconsin grassroots fiscal conservatives as to whether we should be as enthusiastic in our support of Mark Green as we likely would have been for Scott Walker. The answer is an unqualified, "Yes!" (Note the exclamation point).

According to a WisPolitics columnist, the real story in the flurry of governor's race polls thus far in the race is how poorly Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle is consistently polling against Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and Congressman Mark Green.

Opinion: State Elections Board must be non-partisan
It's time to make the Elections Board an independent body that is not dominated by partisan appointees from the governor, political parties and legislative leaders. It's hardly the first time this idea has been raised, but it's time to get it done.
