Two weeks ago, Senior Editor Drew Olson worked a shift as a server at the George Webb restaurant located in the heart of Wauwatosa at 7410 W. State St. The assignment was part of our new "Shift Switch" series at OnMilwaukee.com. Basically, our writers are fanning out at various locations around town to work at different places and write about the experiences.

OnMilwaukee.com Recommends: May 7, 2009
We're adding a dash of spice to our offerings this week, in the form of some delicious salsa from Mrs. Renfro. Other recommendations include some delicious desserts (kringle and root beer floats), a relaxing spa treatment, a pair of jazzy records from an underrated sax specialist, a funny movie about a serious topic, a rockin' band at Shank Hall, a couple of provocative Web sites and a great place for a walk or a jog.

If you're a frequent South 1st Street commuter, you've probably noticed the new Transfer Pizzeria Café, 101 W. Mitchell St. With its name broadcast in stylized neon, the corner building is a definite eye-catcher at night -- a glowing sign of life in a rather dim section of the city.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
